Off-Ice Training
Braemar City of Lakes Figure Skating Club has several off-ice training programs. The programs offered by BCLFSC are designed for figure skaters. We offer ballet, conditioning, strength, pilates, and aerobics.
Lisa Zamarripa
Our instructor, Lisa Zamarripa (formerly Mangiamele), works in classes and individually. Her services include strength, flexibility, and core stability training. Lisa will assess each athlete according to their individual needs, to improve and balance their over-all athletic performance.
Lisa’s focus on core strength, flexibility, muscle balance, and posture and alignment will improve, maintain and enhance a skater’s performance on the ice.

- Off-Ice Specialist for 13 years
- Sports Specific Training for 20 years
- Certification from ACE and NSCA
- Pilates training through the Physical Mind Institute
- BA in dance from Texas Christian University
- Soloist with the Fort Worth Ballet Company and Musical Theatre Productions
- World finalist for ballroom dance

Off-Ice Training is essential for Figure Skaters! The sport of Figure Skating requires strength, flexibility, core connection, body awareness and more! Classes at Braemar Ice Arena focus on a variety of elements needed to build the skater’s over-all potential through sport specific exercises and movement skills. The athlete will progressively develop stability, balance, core strength and flexibility through a combination of training methods such as, pilates, stability ball training, dance and stretching routines to achieve a higher fitness level and enhanced on-ice performance. It is important to prepare and maintain strength and mobility of the spine to prevent skating related injuries.
A choice of Off-Ice Classes is designed to further develop the athletic abilities and artistic qualities of the figure skater to enhance on ice performance:

Class descriptions –
Ballet Performance – A traditional ballet class focused on classical technique at the barre and center. Ballet is a key form of training to develop posture and presentation. The extension of arms, legs and spine are trained to complete the lines of the skater and improve muscle control and on ice power. The detailed movements and combinations instill discipline and polished performances.
Flexibility – Many factors contribute to attaining maximum flexibility. This class provides a progressive combination of stability and core exercises combined with proper alignment while stretching to achieve the individuals flexibility potential. It includes over-all flexibility and mobility exercises as well as, sport specific positions for spirals, Biellmann’s, spread eagles, spin positions and 135’s.
Essential Strength – A balanced over-all strength program specific for figure skaters. A class designed to advance stamina, core stability, agility, cardiovascular and muscular endurance and strength. The use of Bosu trainers, weights and stability balls challenge the skaters to improve in all areas of fitness that impact the skaters performance.
Dance Essentials – Dance of all forms will improve performance skills and coordination. This dance class combines a variety of dance styles including ballet, modern, ballroom with dynamic flexibility, jump and turn combinations to create a full body workout. The skater will strengthen core muscles, develop flowing movement and balance.
Core Conditioning – Conditioning is a crucial form of off-ice training. Increasing the figure skaters over-all fitness level and strength enables the athlete to be more receptive and prepared for the demands of jumping and rotating. This class takes the participant to the next level of training with progressive exercises using stability balls and body weight exercises.
